The all-star cast of comic-book adaptation, Iron Man kicked off the action-laden summer movie season at the film’s Los Angeles premiere.

Robert Downey Jr plays Tony Stark, an arms dealer who travels to the war-torn Middle East to present Stark Industries’ latest missile-weapons system — only to fall victim to his own creation.

“We really rolled up our sleeves and said, ‘You know, there is only two ways to do this and one of them is going to be really embarrassing when we are walking the press line at the premiere,’” Downey Jr told the Associated Press.

“Jon Favreau is a national treasure and he and I really created this interpretation of Tony Stark together,” he added.

Iron Man marks Gwyneth Paltrow’s comeback after small parts in Running With Scissors and her brother’s film The Good Night.

Mother-of-two Paltrow said she thinks at least one of her children will like the fact that mummy is a big movie star.

“Well, I think they are a little young to know what it is and what I am doing,” she said.

“I don’t think they have any idea what I do still. But I think it will be exciting for them one day for them what I have done — especially for my son, I am sure he (Moses) will get a kick of it.”

Director Jon Favreau said he gladly accommodated Paltrow’s family on the set.

“Gwyneth is definitely a mom before she is a career woman. You know, I guess when you win an Oscar in your 20s you have sort of proven it all. She has done great work and now she is coming out and she is being an actress on her own terms. That means when you are a director you have got to make room for the kids on the set.”

Paltrow, who is mother to Apple (4) and son Moses (2) said she wanted to help other women in her decision to go public about experiencing post-partum depression after the birth of her son.

The actress is creating a buzz while making the rounds to promote Iron Man in sky-high stilettos, shoulder-length curls and up-to-there skirts.

Robert Downey Jr said that when he asked her to be in the film he didn’t realise that the fashion icon would cause such a stir.
