Paltrow Opens Up About Father’s Death
Posted by jess • On November 03, 2008 • No Comments

Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has spoken about the death of her beloved father – insisting she tried using “Eastern medicine” to ease his suffering.

Bruce Paltrow was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998 and his eventual death in Italy in 2002 left the Iron Man star totally devastated.

And Paltrow admits that before her father passed away, she tried using alternative remedies in a bid to nurse him back to health.

She says, “In 1998, I was filming The Talented Mr. Ripley in Ischia, a little island off the coast of Naples in Italy. I got a call that changed my life. My father had been diagnosed with throat cancer, and it was stage four. Although he underwent treatment and survived for another four years, I watched his health deteriorate slowly until his death in 2002.

“During this time I began to read about Eastern medicine and the body’s capacity to heal itself. I tried to get my father on board – with mixed results. He loved acupuncture but hated macrobiotic food, which he likened to ‘biting into The New York Times.’”

Gwyneth Paltrow: Apple Makes Moses Cross-Dress!
Posted by jess • On July 10, 2008 • No Comments

At 4, Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple loves to play dress-up – and she isn’t shy about getting her 2-year-old brother Moses in on the act.

“She makes [Moses] cross-dress,” Paltrow, 35, told PEOPLE at Wednesday’s launch of Estée Lauder’s new perfume, Sensuous, in New York City. “But she doesn’t put makeup on him!”

Maybe because she’s keeping it for herself: “My daughter plays with anything that’s girly. … She loves makeup,” said the actress, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. “She puts on the eye shadow and my high heels. … She likes to take my tank tops and make them a dress. And then she asks me to tie a rubber band on the back so they stay up.”

The budding fashionista is also a fan of Mom’s fragrance. “I don’t like her to spray perfume on herself because she’s so little,” says Paltrow, “but she likes to spray it on me.”

But it’s not all maternal duty for the star. After a day of dress-up (and the inevitable cleanup), Paltrow makes sure to decompress.

“Oftentimes when I put my kids to bed I’ll take a bubble bath and have a glass of wine,” she said, adding that she also likes to play chef.

“I don’t make complicated Japanese food or anything like that,” said the star, who recently admitted to having lots of lovely vices. “But I cook all the time, so I’m always trying new stuff.”

The sequel’s release is scheduled for April 10, 2010.

Marvel plans some superhero cross-pollination on the big screen. Robert Downey, Jr.’s Iron Man character, Tony Stark, will make an appearance in The Incredible Hulk, due out in June. Studio chief David Maisel says it’s likely the Hulk will make an appearance in Iron Man 2.
